EGF, FF claim True Team titles
Corey Hill thought the Park Rapids girls track and field team had a chance to contend for the Section 8AA True Team title Tuesday at Vern Weekley Field.
East Grand Forks proved to have too much depth as the Green Wave captured the section title with 509.50 points. Detroit Lakes was second with 489 points, Little Falls took third with 477 points and Park Rapids finished fourth with 432 points.
In the True Team format, each school enters two individuals in each event and one relay team in the four relays. All finishers score points.
The Panthers opened the meet on a positive note when Lydia Lutz, Sophie Shogren, Hannah Wolff and Victoria Lutz won the 4 x 800-meter relay in 9:59.24. Rachel Thelen also took first in the pole vault by clearing 9 feet.
Those would prove to be Park Rapids' only winning efforts on the day.
Lydia Lutz finished second in the 3,200 run and Grace Bateman took third in the 300 hurdles. Victoria Lutz and Shogren went 3-4 in the 800 run. Heather Goodwater finished fourth in the 100 hurdles, Shogren placed fourth in the pole vault and Wolff added a fourth-place showing in the 400 dash. The 4 x 400 relay team of Victoria Lutz, Mandy Schirmers, Shelby Pierce and Wolff also took fourth.
Nicole Knott scored 31 points by placing fifth in the shot put and 10th in the discus. Tori Lauderbaugh finished sixth in the high jump. Morgan Olson finished seventh in the 3,200 run and Thelen placed eighth in the 100 dash.
Meet records were set by Perham's Maddie McClellan in the 3,200 run, Bagley/Fosston's Analisa Huschle in the long jump and triple jump, Bagley/Fosston's 4 x 200 relay team, and Fergus Falls' 4 x 400 relay team.
Team scores: East Grand Forks 509.50, Detroit Lakes 489, Little Falls 477, Park Rapids 432, Fergus Falls 429, Perham 390.50, Bagley/Fosston 371.50, Crookston 359, Pequot Lakes 307, Ottertail Central 291, Thief River Falls 231.50.
