Editorial: A reminder to shop locally for the holidays
If you've been shopping locally lately you've probably been asked if you want Jingle Bells tickets as you purchase your merchandise.
Yes, Christmas is already in the air and it's a good time to think about purchasing your gifts locally. "Black Friday" will soon be here and our local businesses are gearing up.
Downtown businesses have stepped up in the last few years after a lengthy construction project. They've done a great job sprucing up their storefronts and welcoming shoppers.
So, make sure to support our local businesses this season. Show your appreciation for the unique offerings they have.
Another bonus of shopping locally is the Park Rapids Jingle Bell Sweepstakes, which offers a $10,000 cash jackpot to be awarded to lucky shoppers.
Sweepstakes tickets will be distributed by area businesses through Monday, Dec. 10. The gala drawing will be held Thursday, Dec. 13 at Century School in Park Rapids.
There will still be one $5,000 winner but this year 10 lucky participants will win $500. Also new this year: a $500 cash award will be given to the business that gives out the $5,000 winning ticket to be used for a party or special reward to employees.
One ticket will be given for each $10 purchase up to a maximum of 10 total tickets per purchase. Fewer tickets means better odds at winning.
The emphasis is to shop locally during the sweepstakes and year 'round. The $500 prizes will consist of $250 cash and $250 in Chamber Bucks, which can be redeemed at any Park Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce member businesses. The $5,000 will remain a cash prize.
Participating businesses contribute to Jingle Bells in order to give away the $10,000 in prizes.
With these great reasons to shop locally it should be a no-brainer. Show your support this holiday season.
