Editorial: Park Rapids boasts best fireworks display in state
Park Rapids is the place to be on the Fourth of July. In fact, organizers of the annual fireworks display are boasting that Park Rapids has the biggest and best fireworks display in Minnesota on the Fourth.
We have to agree. Have you attended? If not, you are missing out!
Fireworks are launched in Heartland Park and reflect onto Fish Hook River. Crowds of people gather throughout Heartland and Red Bridge parks as the sun sets to get the perfect spot to watch the show.
Others come by boat as they travel from Fish Hook Lake along the river to gather near the park. It’s quite the display, with fireworks reflecting off the water and creating an echo that booms and crackles throughout the area.
More than 450 people contribute annually to the fireworks fund, which is organized by the Rotary Club. The fireworks cost about $23,000 plus insurance and the budget has increased each year to make the show even better.
Donations are 100 percent tax deductible as a charitable contribution.
People donate because they want to spend time in Park Rapids on the Fourth of July. The Chamber of Commerce sponsors an incredible parade each year and the Park Rapids Area Community Band holds a concert in Red Bridge Park before the fireworks display. It’s a ton of fun! And we can all be proud!
So, is anyone out there brave enough to challenge this claim of the best fireworks display or that Park Rapids is the place to be on the Fourth of July? We dare you!
