Editorial: Lively political discourse is encouraged
Election Day will be here before we know it - Tuesday, Nov. 6.
We want to keep the Opinion pages lively with letters from our readers about local and national political issues.
To help voters make informed decisions on Election Day, we will also have a Voter's Guide to be inserted in the Wednesday, Oct. 31 edition of the Enterprise. Questionnaires have been mailed to candidates and we will print their responses, which are limited at 500 words. A sample ballot will also be run in the Enterprise.
Guidelines for letters to the editor are the following:
Letters must bear the writer's address and phone number for verification purposes and have a 350-word limit. Letters can be mailed, dropped off or e-mailed to aerick email@example.com.
Letters submitted by a group or organization must still contain at least one individual's name who represents the group and an address. If a letter contains several signatures, only the first five names will be printed.
The Enterprise will try to print every letter it receives as long as it meets the guidelines. The Enterprise reserves the right to edit all correspondence to meet space requirements, add clarity or avoid obscenity, libel or invasion of privacy.
Deadlines for letters to the editor are 3 p.m. Monday for Wednesday's edition and 3 p.m. Thursday for Saturday's edition.
The last batch of political letters before Election Day will be printed in the Wednesday, Oct. 31 issue with room for rebuttals in the Nov. 3 edition.
The next few weeks leading up to the election should be exciting. Make the most of it by doing research, attending candidate forums, reading the Enterprise and talking with friends. We want everyone to be informed before they vote.
