East Grand Forks controlled the puck in the offensive zone all night in defeating the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team 5-0 Tuesday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.

The Green Wave, which is rated No. 9 in this week's state Class A poll, held a 54-5 advantage in shots in posting the shutout in the season opener between these two Section 8A rivals.

Tommy Hajicek scored 27 seconds into the game as EGF led 1-0 after the first period.

Goals by Colton Poolman and Kolton Aubol extended the lead to 3-0 after the second period as the Green Wave held a 20-2 advantage in shots.

Tye Ausmus' goal 35 seconds into the third period and Aubol's goal with 2:53 remaining concluded the scoring as EGF held a 23-1 advantage in shots in the final period.

Goalie Cody Brumbaugh made 49 saves for the Panthers.
