Drury wins title at Big Bear

Park Rapids' John Drury pinned his way to the 189-pound title at Saturday's Big Bear Tournament in Cass Lake.

Drury pinned his first four opponents before defeating Fosston/Bagley's Andrew Juve 7-5 in the championship match.

Park Rapids' Jared Nash dropped a 6-5 decision to Willmar's Nathanie Swoyer in the 171-pound championship match while Ben Baumgartner ended up placing fifth at 103 pounds as the Panthers finished 14th in this 31-team wrestling tournament with 92.50 points.

Menahga used a 25-8 run to end the first half and a 26-8 run to end the game for an 83-58 win over the Park Rapids boys basketball team Thursday night at the Area HIgh School gym. Derek Pihlaja (24) and Tom Gruchow (23) combined for 47 points to lead the Braves while Taylor Kimball (16) and Paul Dirks (15) hit double figures for Park Rapids.

Dan Ricke and Kyle Kanten scored two goals each to lead the Park Rapids-Menahga boys hockey team to a 5-1 win over Wadena-Deer Creek Thursday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena. Tucker Coborn had Park Rapids' other goal. The Panthers held a 42-15 edge in shots.

Four different players scored in the first period to lead the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team to a 5-1 win over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek Thursday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena. Hannah Williams, Brittany Floyd, Jessica Gapinski and McKenna Brand had goals for the Panthers.

Crosby-Ironton used a 26-1 run to spark a 59-30 Mid-State Conference victory over the Park Rapids girls basketball team Friday night at the Area HIgh School gym. Hannah Wolff led the Panthers with 12 points.
