Driver uninjured after running into storage unit on Highway 10 in Detroit Lakes
A man emerged unscathed Wednesday morning after the car he was driving plowed into a storage unit at Secure Storage Systems on Highway 10 east of Detroit Lakes.
The man, appearing to be in his 30s or 40s, was heading east in a brown 1999 Oldsmobile sedan toward Frazee when he crossed the median and ran straight into the unit, said Bruce Hofer, Frazee, who witnessed the accident. Hofer was in the westbound lane headed for Detroit Lakes. Authorities have not released the name of the driver as of yet.
The car crashed through the door of the northwestern most unit, damaging the roof and some items in it. The accident occured at approximately 10:30 a.m.
"If anybody was in his way, they would have got him," he said. "Luckily, no one else was in front of me."
Hofer said it was lucky that the driver was able to walk away.
"'Oh God, he's going to kill himself or something,'" Hofer said of his thoughts while seeing the accident take place.
The State Patrol, Becker County Sheriff's Office, Frazee Police, Detroit Lakes Fire Department and St. Mary's EMS responded.
EMS workers treated the driver.
It's unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor. The driver was up and walking around after the accident.
The State Patrol is investigating the accident.
