A man was arrested Sunday evening in Fargo on suspicion of drunken driving after he hit a light pole near Main Avenue and Fourth Street, knocking the pole into Main Avenue.

Light poles are designed to break away when they're hit to minimize injury inside the vehicle, said Fargo police Sgt. Mike Mitchell.

A female passenger in the vehicle was taken by ambulance to a hospital following the incident.

Power was out in parts of Fargo at the time, but Mitchell said that was not a factor in the crash.
