Dramatic rally keys Panthers' 9-4 win
Danielle Dent's two-run home run in the seventh inning sparked a six-run outburst as the Park Rapids fastpitch softball team rallied to defeat Pelican Rapids 9-4 Monday.
The Panthers used Brittany Gartner's two-run triple and Alyssa Carlson's run-scoring grounder to take a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning.
A two-run triple by Amy Field highlighted a four-run fifth inning as Pelican Rapids claimed the lead. The Vikings only had three baserunners in the first four innings.
Maria Goetz started the Panthers' rally in the seventh by being hit by a pitch. Dent followed with a home run as the Panthers took a 5-4 lead. After an error and a single by Brie Warne, Morgan Kelly and Gartner followed with RBI singles. An error allowed the final two runs to score.
Goetz went 2 for 3, Dent went 3 for 4, Kelly went 2 for 4 with two runs and Gartner went 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBI to lead Park Rapids' 10-hit attack.
Warne allowed four runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts in five innings before Cady Clinton allowed one hit over the final two innings for the win.
The Panthers carried a 12-6 overall record into the regular-season finale at Sebeka Friday. Park Rapids will host a Section 8AA playoff game Tuesday at 5.
