Downtown Diva has opened up on Main to give people a place to treat themselves.

"I don't think we pamper ourselves enough," said Julie Hudek, who opened up a manicure/pedicure business in downtown Park Rapids March 3. Fashion jewelry, purses and accessories are also sold here.

Hudek has almost 20 years of experience in the nail industry. She trained in Austin, Texas, and had a successful business there before moving to Big Lake. She also had a business there and was an instructor at Aveda Institute and Regency Beauty Institute.

She was a national educator for OPI, a nail color company, where she traveled to the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa to teach at schools and salons.

"We loved this area and found property near Menahga," Hudek said.

She has worked at Park Avenue School of Cosmetology and when this commercial space became available she jumped.

"The timing was right so I decided to combine my passion for manicures and pedicures with my love for accessories," Hudek said.

She offers many services from nail enhancements (acrylic, gel and fiberglass), to spa manicure and pedicures.

Pedicures are her specialty.

"A lot of people have never had a pedicure but it's something everyone should try," she said. "There are health benefits as well with the foot/leg massage."

Pedicures take about an hour depending on the feet and manicures can take 30 to 40 minutes.

There are options for people who might want a solution for biting nails or for people who want a full set of nail enhancements.

"I cater to the individual. The main thing is to have fun," Hudek said.

She is working on special promotions for students who are looking to pamper themselves before prom.

Downtown Diva opens at 9 a.m. Monday-Saturday. She is listening to customers to create regular hours.

"I'm listening to what they're interested in when it comes to accessories as well," she said.

Hudek carries just one of each style of purse she sells so people will have a unique bag, for example. She also carries jewelry.

Downtown Diva is tucked under the Park Theatre marquee on the first block of Main Avenue. For more information, or to make an appointment, call 237-3400.
