Park Rapids firefighters quickly doused an attic fire at a house near downtown Park Rapids Thursday morning.

Crews were called to 611 No. Park Street around 11:30 a.m. to find smoke bellowing from the roof of the wood home.

The occupants weren't home at the time.

"It started in the attic and the damage was confined to the attic," said Fire Chief Donn Hoffman.

Hoffman said he didn't know the cause, but was confidant one would be determined.

Several trucks and firefighters responded, attacking the fire from inside the home and the roof via an aerial ladder.

Firefighters on the roof removed some pieces of the shingles to extinguish the fire from above.
