Doris Marie Hunter, 88, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 in Topeka, Kan. after a short illness.
She was born Nov. 17, 1920 in Atchinson, Kan. to Canon Sholander and Florence Johnson. After graduation from Topeka High School in 1937, she attended KU and studied accounting.
She married John Hunter on May 17, 1941. He died in 1958. After being widowed, she raised her three children alone and put all her children through college. She ran the first half-way house for the Menninger Clinic and was a residential and commercial real estate broker. She opened her first antique shop in Park Rapids. She continued running Log Cabin Antiques and working as a cashier for Prudential First Auctions until her death.
She is survived by a sister Lois (Keith) Sayler, of Topeka; three children: Karen (John) Reedy, Kay (Bob) Adamson and Wayne (Janet), all of Topeka; two nieces and two nephews; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers: Emery and Marlow Sholander; and a grandson, Robbie Adamson.
