Donald J. Nelson, 80, of Frazee, died Thursday, July 3, 2008 at the Frazee Care Center in Frazee.
Donald James Nelson was born to Alvin and Olive (Malvick) Nelson on Sept. 6, 1927 on the family farm near Audubon. He attended Maple Grove country school near Audubon. After completing school he worked on the farm until he was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1950. He was honorably discharged in 1952, and married Beverly Thompson in Detroit Lakes. They resided in rural Frazee and started raising their family.
Don worked for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Detroit Lakes for 17 years, before he semi-retired. He later went to work for Pella Windows in Detroit Lakes until he officially retired in 1989. In his early years, Don was an avid hunter. He also enjoyed watching his television shows and visiting his friends at the VFW while he played a few pulltabs.
Don will be remembered and missed by his children, Dennis (Linda) Nelson of Frazee, Sandra (Mark) Bye of Frazee, Steven Nelson of Frazee, Sharon (Tony) Ring of Fairmont, Minn., Judy (Terry) Hamilton of Dallas, Ga., and Ronald (Marion) Nelson of Ottertail; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two brothers, Webb Nelson of Magnolia, Texas, and Roger Nelson of Detroit Lakes; and one sister, Darlene (Gerald) Cleveland of Detroit Lakes.
Preceding Donald in death were his parents; one son, Daniel; one brother, Cledit Nelson, and one granddaughter, Brenda Nelson.
Funeral services for Don were held Tuesday, July 8, at Furey Funeral Home, Frazee, with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Furey Funeral Home of Frazee.
