Donald Kerwin, the bicyclist pedaling cross-country to raise funds for area organizations, covered just over 800 miles Monday afternoon, after brief repairs in Salina, KS.

He said the first week of riding was "tough" but he's worked out some kinks, including two flat tires and broken spokes, and now plans to head directly southwest.

His sunburned nose is now a bright fuchsia, he said, but the initial pedaling aches and pains are dissipating.

Kerwin, with Arizona as his destination, is raising funds for the Akeley Regional Community Center (ARCC), Hubbard County DAC and Headwaters Animal Shelter via pledges.

Donations may be made via the organizations.

Stay tuned to the Enterprise for upcoming updates on Kerwin's journey.
