Donald F. Engleson, 86, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.

Donald Florian Engleson was born Sept. 1, 1927 in Milan to Edward and Ales (Torgeson) Engleson. He was raised in Rochert and is a 1945 graduate of Frazee High School.

Don served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his discharge, he returned to Rochert where he lived for a brief time prior to moving to Alaska.

He later moved to Hibbing, where he married Dorene Bertilson July 19, 1952. While in Hibbing, he drove a Euclid for Hanna Mining Co. They moved to Park Rapids, where he worked as a carpenter. They moved to Salem, Ore., Mesa, Ariz. and then to Detroit Lakes.

Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, playing guitar, especially with The Old Time Country Bunch at many area nursing homes, making knives, reading and reloading bullets.

Survivors include his wife, Dorene of Detroit Lakes; four children: Gary (Joen) of Snoqualmie, Wash., Bradley (Terri) of Henderson, Tenn., Dawna Engleson of Salem, Ore. and Kathryn (Bruce) Miller of Salem, Ore.; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Roger (Becky) of Fergus Falls; sister, Lois Freithem of Spokane, Wash.; and "Son from Belgium" Romain VanSteirtegem of Wetteren, Belgium.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jayme; his parents; two sisters, Marjorie and Anita; and a brother, Floyd.

Graveside service: including Military Honors at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 2 at Bakke Lutheran Cemetery in rural Detroit Lakes.

Memorial service: will follow at 10 a.m. at Bakke Lutheran Church with Rev. Ann Newgard-Larson, officiating.
