Dollie Jacobson

Feb. 26, 1916-May 20, 2008

Dollie Jacobson, 92, of Frazee, died on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, in the Frazee Care Center.

Dollie Lenius was born to August and Francis (Ruzicka) Lenius on Feb. 26, 1916, at Frazee. She attended country school through eighth grade. She was baptized Rosella Hazel Josephine Lenius at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee on May 7, 1916, but she was always called Dollie. She legally changed her name to Dollie at age 82, when she needed a passport to take a trip to Israel for her grand-niece's wedding.

On November 3, 1934, Dollie married Raymond Jacobson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee. Raymond drove truck for Rigsby Trucking. In 1942 they moved to Detroit Lakes, where they owned and operated the Skelly Café from 1953 until their move to Jamestown, N.D., in 1957. After Ray's retirement, they returned to Frazee in 1975.

Starting in 1980, Ray and Dollie spent their winters in Apache Junction, Ariz., until Ray's death in Arizona from a vehicle-pedestrian accident in 1998. Other than her years in Jamestown, Dollie spent most of her life in or within 20 miles of Frazee.

Dollie spent much of her time on needlework and quilting. She crocheted countless doilies, tablecloths, and afghans; as well as making a quilt for every one of her grandchildren, many great grandchildren and her extended family. She journaled for decades, loved to travel, and was an awesome cook.

Dollie's grandchildren will remember her doughnuts, the crystal candy dish that was always full, her constant hugs and kisses, and their birthday dollar. She sent her first grandchild a first birthday card with a dollar in it 49 years ago. Since then, everyone she loved has received the traditional dollar in their birthday card, as an annual reminder that she loved you. Her friends will remember the jokes she would tell, and everyone will remember the many card games with her.

Surviving Dollie are her three sons, Kenneth (Marlys) Jacobson of Frazee, Arden Jacobson of Jamestown and Darwin Jacobson of Detroit Lakes; one daughter, Karen (Duane) Rasmussen of Kenosha, Wis.; a sister, Helene Hood of East Troy, Wis.; a brother, Chet (Eleanor) Lenius of Apache Junction, Ariz.; a daughter in-law, Carolyn Jacobson of Moorhead; as well as her 18 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.

Preceding Dollie in death were her husband Ray (1998); her parents; brothers Arthur Lenius, George (Vernice) Lenius and Frank (Audrey) Lenius; sisters Leona (John) Martens, Martha (Matt) Thelen and Lottie (Oliver) Engum; two sons, Floyd (1999) and an infant son, Douglas; as well as a daughter-in-law, Shirley (2002).

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, May 23 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Frazee with the Rev. William Aufdenkamp officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Frazee.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Furey Funeral Home, Frazee.
