Looking for a deal for a buck? You might be more in luck.

Beginning in the fall Park Rapids shoppers looking for a value will have yet another option with the opening of a Dollar Tree store.

The Dollar Tree store will be located at 1300 Charles, behind L&M Supply and by Walmart.

Owned by the United Development Group out of Menomonie, Wis., the 8,000 sq. ft. storefront should be completed – with the store turned over to Dollar Tree management – by Sept. 1.

Dollar Tree will then lease the building for the foreseeable future.

Pat Flynn, Partner United Development Group since 2004, says Dollar Tree will bring a different offering currently not seen in the Park Rapids area.

“Dollar Tree is unique in that everything in the store truly is a dollar,” Flynn said. “It gives a new venue to shop that they didn’t have before.”

When asked about the presence of a Family Dollar store in town already, Flynn said the two stores are “different concepts.”

City Planner for the City of Park Rapids Dan Walker hopes the two can mutually coexist.

“Big companies do their research before opening new stores; they did theirs and found that there was a market to be had in Park Rapids,” Walker said.

“Any time there is development in the area and more options it is a plus for the community. If they believe it’ll work, then that’s great.”

On July 28, Dollar Tree CEO Bob Sasser announced that they would be purchasing Family Dollar for $8.5 Billion.

With the two stores essentially being one company now, the odds of survival may just even out.
