Sept. 6, 1952-June 21, 2008
Lake Park native Diane M. Plasschaert, 55, of Chase City, Va., died on Saturday, June 21, 2008 after a long battle with cancer (since 1992).
Diane Marie Anderson was born on Sept. 6, 1952 in in Lake Park, where she attended elementary and high school. She attended North Dakota State University, graduating in 1974 earning a degree in food and nutrition. While in college she met Gary Plasschaert of Detroit Lakes, who was attending Moorhead State University. They were married in 1975 in Eskjo Lutheran Church in Lake Park, while Gary was serving as an officer in the Army Medical Service Corps.
Diane worked as an assistant food service manager and as a medical office assistant for several medical practices in between raising three children. She kept her Midwest roots with her during her travels, with a fun collection of ducks and loons and her expertise in the kitchen.
Diane enjoyed gardening, decorating, and most of all her family. She touched so many lives, with her keen sense of humor and loving, caring ways. She always showed courage and strength during her long illness. Everyone could learn from her positive attitude on life.
Diane touched the hearts of all who knew her; they will keep her spirit with them always. She was a great teacher, mentor and role model.
Surviving Diane were her husband of 33 years, Gary Plasschaert; daughters Kristen and Karen; son Kevin; and her mother, Gladys Anderson. Preceding her in death were her father, Obert Anderson, and her brother, Darrell.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at Eskjo Lutheran Church in Lake Park.
