Dewey doing well after surgery Wednesday
A surgery to replace a shunt for Christopher Dewey, the Mahnomen County Sheriff's Deputy shot in the line of duty in February, went well Wednesday morning according to his wife, Emily Dewey.
Chris Dewey is in the intensive care unit at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colo.
In a post to Chris Dewey's Caring Bridge journal at www.caringbridge.org/visit/chrisdewey, Emily Dewey wrote that Chris Dewey now has two shunts, one each in the left and right ventricles of his brain. Ventricles are four communication cavities in the brain that are filled with cerebrospinal fluid.
Surgeons also took a sample of the cerebrospinal fluid to determine if there is an infection.
Emily Dewey said that Chris Dewey was more "awake and aware" after the surgery than he has been in a week.
