Detroit Lakes, W-H-A defeat Panthers

Detroit Lakes used runs of 14-2 and 19-2 in the first half and a 27-5 run in the second half to spark a 71-27 Mid-State Conference win over the Park Rapids girls basketball team Friday night at the Area High School gym.

After the Lakers jumped out to a 14-2 lead, jumpers by Ashley Domino, Nicole Price and Alyssa Carlson and two free throws by CarsonLee Christenson closed the deficit to 20-11 with 8:36 to play.

The Lakers, sparked by 3-pointers by Karli Kerzman and Courtney Hedstrom, responded with a 19-2 run to claim a 39-13 lead.

Two free throws by Amber Booge, a layup by Grace Bateman and a basket off a rebound by Olivia Vaadeland in the final 1:55 kept the Panthers within 42-19 at the half.

A 3-pointer by Carlson made it 44-22 with 16:31 to play, but the Panthers managed only Vaadeland's jumper with 13:39 to go and a 3-pointer by Booge in the final minute as Detroit Lakes closed the game with a 27-5 run.

Kerzman (16), Kayli Muckenhirn (14) and Hedstrom (13) scored in double figures for Detroit Lakes, which improved to 5-3 in conference play and 10-10 overall.

Carlson, Vaadeland and Booge combined for 15 points for the Panthers, who fell to 0-9 in the conference and 0-21 overall.

Wolves defeat Panthers

Eva Lampert scored 25 points and Ciera Clyde added 18 points to lead Walker-Hackensack-Akeley to an 80-39 win over the Panthers Thursday night at Walker.

Lampert and Clyde combined for 33 points in the first half as the Wolves jumped out to a 47-20 lead in this battle of Section 8AA rivals. Amanda Trosen also finished in double figures with 10 points as the Wolves improved to 14-7.

Domino scored 10 points while Carlson and Bateman added 14 more for the Panthers.
