Detroit Lakes hits season high in win over Panthers

Detroit Lakes swept the top four spots in all four events en route to a 145.975 to 112.80 victory over the Park Rapids gymnastics team at Detroit Lakes on Dec. 18.

Kyja Penning led the Panthers by placing sixth in all-around with a 31.70. Jessi Andersen was seventh with a 28.25, Emily Klingenberg finished eighth with a 26.00 and Cassie Baxter was ninth with a 23.70.

The Panthers' best event was vault where Penning's 8.60, Andersen's 7.95, Baxter's 7.85 and Klingenberg's 7.75 led to a 32.15.

On uneven parallel bars, Penning's 7.95, Andersen's 7.00, Baxter's 6.50 and Klingenberg's 6.40 resulted in a 27.85 team score.

Penning's 7.15, Andersen's 7.00, and a pair of 6.35s by Klingenberg and Kirsten Erickson gave the Panthers a 26.85 on balance beam.

Park Rapids received a 25.95 in floor exercise behind Penning's 8.00, Andersen's 6.30, Erickson's 6.15 and Klingenberg's 5.50.

Amy Crawford's 36.80 all-around score led the Lakers to their best score of the season.

Leading the Panthers in the junior varsity meet were Kaity Darchuk (7.70) and Kayla Johnk (7.35) in vault; Johnk (5.80) and Sam Harshman (5.00) on beam; Harshman (4.90) and Johnk (4.80) in floor; and Erickson (3.10) and Kylee Roy (2.20) on bars.
