Deputy hit by alleged drunk driver in Richland County, ND
WAHPETON, N.D. - Authorities say a Richland County sheriff's deputy sustained minor injuries to his right arm when he was hit and backed into his patrol vehicle by an alleged drunk driver.
The deputy was investigating a vehicle sitting on a road about a mile southwest of Wahpeton early Wednesday, according to a news release from Sheriff Larry Leshovsky and Wahpeton Police Chief Scott Thorsteinson.
After the deputy left his patrol vehicle, the suspect vehicle drove toward him, striking him on the right arm and pushing him back into his patrol vehicle, the release stated.
The driver, Heather Sondrol, 21, of Wahpeton, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The deputy drove himself to the emergency room at St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, Minn., where he was treated and released.
