The Panthers held a 64-62 lead before going 1-2 in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 1-2-3 in the 100-yard breaststroke to close out their dual-meet schedule with a 100-84 Mid-State Conference victory at the Area High School pool.

Allycia Zinke, Hannah Williams, Lauren Rossman and Emily Creager won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:48.90 and Heather Kniss, Jessica Andersen, Melissa Haas and Leah Meinert followed in 1:52.73 as the Panthers claimed a 76-64 advantage.

Katherine Erickson won the 100 backstroke in 1:04.54 before Mandy Schirmers (1:14.37), Jessie O'Hern (1:22.89) and Kniss (1:23.19) went 1-2-3 in the 100 breaststroke for a 100-72 edge to seal the win.

Park Rapids took control early when Erickson, Schirmers, Rossman and Zinke opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:59.91.

Runner-up efforts by Creager in the 200 freestyle (2:10.23), Rossman in the 50 freestyle (27.46), Ellen Hoffman in diving (161.65 points) and Zinke in the 100 butterfly (1:08.32) gave the Panthers a 52-42 advantage.

Detroit Lakes rallied by going 1-2 in the 100 freestyle and 500 freestyle to close the gap to 64-62. But the Panthers regained control by winning the next three events to finish 7-1 in dual meets.

"The girls are really tired right now and it showed," said Park Rapids head coach Todd Fritze. "We lost some close races. Even though the girls are tired, they have to stay in there mentally and win those close races. Overall I thought the girls raced really well. The main thing is we got the win."

The Panthers coasted to a 102-36 win in the junior varsity race. Posting winning times for the Panthers were Hoffman, O'Hern, Christina Mackley and Emily Eystad in the 200 medley relay (2:17.92); Alyza Edevold in the 200 freestyle (2:35.89); Mackley in the 200 individual medley (2:50.22); Isabella Simonson in the 50 freestyle (34.19); Kniss in diving (134.70 points); Elizabeth Nichols in the 100 butterfly (1:15.48); Seri Erickson in the 500 freestyle (6:28.77); Taylor Graham, Kayla Andersen, Nichols and Edevod in the 200 freestyle relay (2:01.76); Graham in the 100 backstroke (1:19.42); Maya Johnson in the 100 breaststroke (1:28.47); and Edevold, Seri Erickson, Eystad and Hoffman in the 400 freestyle relay (4:45.11).
