Former Detroit Lakes and Lake Park resident Dennis Erickson, 80, of Thief River Falls, died Monday, June 23, 2008, at MeritCare Northwest Medical Center, in Thief River Falls.
Dennis was born to John and Hilda (Olson) Erickson on May 14, 1928 in Cormorant Township, where he grew up and attended school. He farmed with his family there. Dennis married Merl Strand on June 25, 1950. Following their marriage, the couple lived on a farm south of Lake Park, and in 1954, they moved in to Lake Park. Merl died on March 16, 1985.
Dennis married Ruby Erickson on Sept. 28, 1992, in South Dakota, and they made their home in Detroit Lakes. They later moved to Thief River Falls.
Dennis worked in road construction during the summers and at American Crystal Sugar in the winter for many years, before going to work for Snappy's in Detroit Lakes. He would remain at Snappy's until his retirement in 1990.
Dennis enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Erickson of Thief River Falls; two sons, Jerry (Mona) Erickson of Hitterdal and Russell Erickson of Hawley; four daughters, Susan (Richard) Bastyr of LaCrosse, Wis., Judy (Mark) Anderson of Hawley, Debra (Donald) Smith of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Nancy (Jack) Kirkwood of Lake Park; two stepdaughters, Kathy (Dan) Bylander and Renay (Nathan) Anderson, both of Thief River Falls; 15 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Preceding Dennis in death were his parents; his first wife, Merl; four sisters, Gladys Palin, Leona Erickson, Lillian Hammond and Maxine Brune; and one brother, Donald Erickson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 27, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Lake Park.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at Lake Park Lutheran Church, Lake Park, with interment following at Lake Park Lutheran Church Cemetery, Lake Park.
