Dennis Dean Tranby

Dennis Dean Tranby, 62, of Nevis, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 at home in a house fire.

He was born Feb. 4, 1947 to Frank and Josephine (Trunic) Tranby in Deer Creek. He grew up in Deer Creek and graduated from school there before joining the military. He served in Okinawa, Japan during the Vietnam War.

After the military he moved to Minneapolis, where he met his wife Kay. They were married on Aug. 23, 1969.

In 1972 the family relocated to Nevis while he worked in Minneapolis during the week and came home on weekends. After several years he moved back to Nevis and was employed in carpentry. Later he was employed in various other jobs including cabinet making and assembly.

He is survived by his children: Angela (Dell) Karl, of Nevis; Spencer, of Akeley; Jennifer (Dana) Cirks, of Sabin; and Gabriel, of Nevis; five grandchildren; eight brothers and sisters; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kay, in 1994; a sister, Joyce; and a brother, Gene.

Memorial service: 11 a.m. today (Wednesday), March 4 at Church of Christ Church in Nevis, with Pastor Roger Olson officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. Lyn Rittgers will be the organist and Diane Saak will sing "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace".

Inurnment: A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
