Denise Marie Tandsater, 54, of Glencoe, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at her home in Glencoe.

Denise was born May 19, 1958, in Hibbing. She was the daughter of Thomas and Diane (Loux) Casey. Denise was baptized as an infant June 1, 1958, at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Hibbing, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth in May of 1972, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grand Rapids.

She was a graduate of the Grand Rapids High School Class of 1976. Denise furthered her education at Ridgewater College in Hutchinson, from 1994-1996 and received her nursing degree.

Denise was united in marriage to Jim Surface. This marriage was blessed with two children, Jason and Diane.

Denise resided in New York and Grand Rapids. She later moved to Hutchinson, where she met and married Martin Tandsater, August 23, 1996, in. They shared 16 years of marriage.

As a young woman, Denise was a nannie in New York. She studied, practiced and was active in alternative medicine for 10-15 years. Denise was employed at Prairie River Home Care in Hutchinson, as a LPN. She was a care-taker for Nick and Brandon, two special boys, for many years.

Denise was a librarian for AGAPE Christian Academy. She was a member of Word of Life Outreach Center in Hutchinson, where she was proactive in the bookstore, the senior citizen program and worked in the nursery.

Denise enjoyed baking and cooking. She loved to travel, her favorite trip was to Israel. Denise especially enjoyed playing board games with her family. She cherished the time she spent with her family, grandchildren and friends.

Denise is survived by her, husband, Martin Tandsater of Glencoe; children, Jason Surface and his wife, Kristen of Travers City, Mich., Diane Isabell of Chanhassen; grandchildren, Lydia, AJ and Emilee; brothers, Pat Casey and his wife, Rozanne of Grand Rapids, Mike Casey and his wife, Colleen of Grand Rapids, Tim Casey and his wife, Connie of Glencoe, Ed Casey and his wife, Patti of Grand Rapids; Many other relatives and friends.

Denise is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Casey; mother, Diane Casey-Johnson; and brother, William "Bill" Casey.

Memorial service: was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Word of Life Outreach Center in Hutchinson. Officiating was Pastor Jim Hall. Word of Life Singers, sang "How Great Thou Art," and "Amazing Grace."
