Field position was the determining factor as Thief River Falls spoiled homecoming for the Park Rapids football team Friday night at Vern Weekley Field.

The Prowlers scored on four drives of less than 35 yards, including two drives of less than 20 yards, en route to a 37-6 Heart O'Lakes Conference and Section 8AAA victory.

Thief River Falls' defense shut down the Panthers in the first half as the Prowlers built a 24-0 lead. Park Rapids managed only one first down and had minus-25 yards in offense in the first half.

The Panthers started the game at their own 20-yard line, but a fumble resulted in a punt from the 4.

Thief River Falls took over at the Park Rapids 28, but the Panthers' defense held. Jerry Guerrero's 30-yard field goal gave the Prowlers a 3-0 lead with 8:17 to play in the first quarter.

On the next possession, Ian Johnson ran for 11 yards to give the Panthers what would be their only first down of the half. The Panthers were forced to punt and Thief River Falls took over at the Park Rapids 35.

Five plays later, Ryan Hutton scored on a 21-yard run. Guerrero's kick gave Thief River Falls a 10-0 lead at the 5:11 mark. A 9-yard run by Ralph Williams and a 10-yard carry by Kaleb Torgerson keyed that 35-yard scoring drive.

After forcing the Panthers to punt for the third straight time, Thief River Falls threatened to score again when an 8-yard run by Williams and a 15-yard run by Logan Kennedy led to a first down at the Park Rapids 23. But Cory Odland's interception in the end zone stopped that drive.

A fumble two plays later gave the Prowlers possession at the Park Rapids 13. Williams rushed for 12 yards to set up a 1-yard scoring plunge by Kennedy. With 11:13 to play in the first half, Thief River Falls held a 16-0 lead.

Park Rapids was forced to punt on its next series and the Prowlers drove 79 yards in 11 plays to pad their lead. A 31-yard run by Torgerson and a 9-yard carry by Torgerson on fourth-and-6 set up a 13-yard TD run by Hutton. Jacob Mattson caught the two-point conversion to give the Prowlers a 24-0 cushion with 3:56 to play in the first half.

Park Rapids received a break when the Prowlers fumbled a punt. Billy Kimball recovered the loose ball at the TRF 19. However, the Prowlers sacked Park Rapids quarterback Cole Tretbar twice and took over at the 26. TRF ran out the final 36 seconds of the half.

In the second half, Thief River Falls' defense continued to control the game.

On the Panthers' first possession of the second half, Colin Vaadeland broke free for a 38-yard run as Park Rapids reached the TRF 17. But another sack stopped that drive.

The Prowlers were forced to punt three plays later. Thief River Falls attempted a fake punt, but the Panthers weren't fooled and regained possession at the Prowlers' 24.

Thief River Falls' defense held again and the Prowlers took over at the 21.

Park Rapids' defense forced a punt, but the Panthers' offense was stopped at the TRF 48.

The Prowlers followed with a nine-play, 52-yard scoring drive. Williams gained 12 and 22 yards and Torgerson rushed for 9 yards to set up a 3-yard scoring run by Torgerson. With 10:30 to play, TRF held a 30-0 lead.

On the Panthers' next possession, a fumbled snap on a punt gave Thief River Falls possession at the Park Rapids 17. Williams' 5-yard run capped that short three-play scoring drive as TRF held a 37-0 advantage with 7:47 remaining.

The Panthers followed with their only scoring drive of the game. A 23-yard run by Zach Eystad, a 9-yard run by Dan Pike and a 27-yard run by Tretbar set up a 6-yard TD run by Pike. That eight-play, 70-yard drive with 2:55 to play concluded the scoring.

The Panthers finished with five first downs and 109 total yards. Pike gained 44 yards on 10 carries while Vaadeland had 30 yards on 11 attempts. Johnson and Tretbar didn't complete a pass in eight throws.

Thief River Falls compiled 16 first downs and 327 offensive yards with Williams (19 carries for 107 yards) and Torgerson (17 carries for 100 yards) leading the way.
