Deer Creek man charged after hit and run with horse-drawn buggy
Anthony James Swanson, 35, of Deer Creek, appeared in Otter Tail County District Court on June 4, charged with leaving the scene of an accident and criminally-related vehicular use resulting in injuries to others.
Court records state that at 6:14 p.m. on May 30, a Dodge pickup driven by Swanson collided with a horse-drawn buggy on Highway 73, east of Deer Creek. Three occupants of the buggy were injured and transported by ambulance to an area hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries.
Swanson reportedly left the scene of the accident. Witnesses identified the other vehicle as a Dodge pickup, and members of the Deer Creek Fire and Rescue Squad later told sheriff’s deputies that Swanson lived nearby and owned a Dodge pickup.
Deputies went to the residence, a mile away, located a pickup that matched the description and found significant damage to the vehicle. The damage was quickly linked to the scene of the accident.
Swanson was not at home when sheriff’s deputies arrived. He later booked himself into the Otter Tail County Detention Center.
His next court appearance is Monday, June 17.
