A Spear n' Chair captured the imagination at Saturday's Minnesota Darkhouse & Angling Association's 30th annual Decoy Carvers Show.

The portable aluminum chair fashioned by Myron Isaacson was a desperate act by a man with a backache. It is trademarked as My Dream Chair.

Isaacson was having trouble dipping a line, or holding a spear, over an ice hole for hours.

The 22-inch chair enabled him to sit comfortably - or nap when the mood strikes him - in his fish house waiting for the proverbial lunker to strike.

Made of PVC pipe over aluminum supports, the chair can be used in several different positions. It can even be used as a commode if nature calls.

Isaacson was one of several vendors at the show. Each year, it seems a new invention takes the ice fishing world by storm.

This year, it was at least two, along with pink decoys.

"Everybody's been happy with them, " Isaacson said of his chair. "I make an optional swivel for hunting."

The model displayed Saturday was a 2.0 version.

Isaacson said he kept tinkering until he got a model that fit into a small fish house.

"The seat's good for 35 below," he said. The chair comes with an optional beer holder. He learned his rocker model wouldn't fit comfortably in a 4x4 ice house.

The current version, designed in 2010, comes apart and reassembles in less than a minute It comes with an optional tote bag that is extra. He's sold 80 to date.

Hot pink was the hot color for decoys this year. Carvers said it's just a trend, but the pink is selling well.

But the second nifty gadget was called a Mini Teaser. It looked like spinner bait.

You hang it over the hole and it spins. It attracts fish that leap out of the hole to grab it. The alert angler should be ready with a spear.
