Deconcini's hat trick powers Lakers to 5-1 win over Panthers
Luke Jaeger scored the only goal for the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team in a 5-1 loss at Detroit Lakes Tuesday night.
A power-play goal by Kyle Hermann and a goal by Ryan Deconcini gave the Lakers a 2-0 lead after the first period.
Connor Kennedy and Drew Bade assisted on Jaeger's goal at the 9:11 mark of the second period as the Panthers cut the deficit to 2-1. Park Rapids held a 15-7 advantage in shots in that period.
Deconcini completed his hat trick with a pair of goals in the third period to seal the win in this battle of Section 8A rivals. Austin Rusness also scored in the final period as the Lakers improved to 1-1 against section opponents and 3-3 overall.
Goalie Cody Brumbaugh made 28 saves for the Panthers, who fell to 0-2 against section teams and overall despite having a 35-33 edge in shots.
