Dead baby found in hospital linens delivered to MN laundry
By Anne Jacobson / Red Wing Republican Eagle - `RED WING, Minn. -- A dead infant was found in hospital linens delivered Tuesday to Crothall Laundry here, Red Wing Police Chief Roger Pohlman said.
“We’re calling it a death investigation at this time,” he said.
Authorities were alerted at 12:29 p.m. and went to the laundry. Pohlman said the body, as well as the laundry, had been retrieved by an undisclosed Twin Cities hospital before his officers received the call.
“That’s their practice,” he said of the laundry business. “They call the place it came from.”
Red Wing officers then interviewed workers and notified the St. Paul Police Department. The hospital where the laundry had been removed is in St. Paul. Red Wing is about 45 miles southeast of St. Paul.
“There’s so much we don’t know because we don’t have the body,” Pohlman said.
A family member of a worker said the discovery occurred earlier in the morning. Staff were told not say anything until the hospital, which is the Twin Cities, was alerted.
“It’s under investigation and more information will be released as it’s received,” Pohlman added.
