A day at the pumpkin patch
By Sarah Smith / Enterprise
The wickedly clever attractions at Carter’s Red Wagon Farm west of Park Rapids are the brainchild of Tony and Linda Carter. Each year another attraction joins the festivities and games. This year featured Hobbits and Gandalf in the woods, at left. A screeching owl comes flying down out of the trees ala Harry Potter. The corn maze amazes. The tribute to Itasca State Park even has a lookout post in the middle of the maze where you can catch your breath or find where you went off the beaten path. Live entertainment and a scarecrow band were additional features this year. Weather has kept crowds down, however. The first three weekends the attraction was open it rained. Last weekend was sunny and brisk.
Kids left the patch with corn in every crevice of their clothing and likely their underwear.
Dominick took some convincing to leave the slide for other attractions.
Gandalf was joined by Hobbits and a bear, chasing each other around the corn maze.
The hay maze is one of two on the farm.
