DAVID GRUCHOW SR.

David Dwight Gruchow Sr., 70, of Park Rapids, died peacefully in his sleep Monday, May 5, 2014 at his home in Park Rapids.

David was born Feb. 27, 1944 in Wadena to Homer and Ethel (Raddahl) Gruchow. He attended a variety of schools through the 8th grade.

David Sr. spent over 40 years on the open road, driving semi, 10 of those years were spent with Darlene team driving until her illness. The last 15 years he drove truck for Minnesota Saw Dust in Sauk Centre and after retiring from the trucking industry he most recently worked at L&M Fleet.

David loved learning new things and was always reading and searching the computer to educate himself. He earned many degrees from online colleges, from small engine to locksmith, and even building computers.

On Oct. 27, 1962, David was united in marriage to Darlene Kaye Bettin. This union was blessed with four children: David (Jodi) Gruchow Jr. of Park Rapids, Rodney (Kim) Gruchow of Willmar, Kimberly Gruchow (Brad Steinbach) of Herreid, S.D. and Michelle (Tom) Weaver of Elbert, Colo.

David enjoyed his time in the garage and could fix just about anything. He owned and operated Gruchow's Small Engine Repair shop and loved mechanic work. David was really known as a "jack of all trades" and will be dearly missed by his family.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Darlene; their four children; his grandchildren, Leah, Nancy, Jamie, Cody, Krista, Justin, Colleen, Jemma, Dustin, David, and Cade; great-grandchildren, Hailee, Christopher, Wyatt, Madisen, Kurgan, Caleb, and Nathan; two brothers, Howard (Jeni) Gruchow of Georgetown Ky. and Lester (Annella) Strommen of Sebeka; two sisters, Mae (Charlie) Carlson of Sebeka, and Joan (Bill) Wilson of Sebeka; two brothers-in- law, Bob Randall of Wadena and Jim (Sue) Bettin of Park Rapids; one sister-in-law; Judy (Cleo) Bach of Backus.

David is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pam Randall and Ramona Malmskog; infant brother, Randy; and infant daughter, Linda.

Memorial service: 1 p.m. Friday, May 9 at the Jones Pearson Funeral Home. Pastor Stephen Norby will be officiating.

Visitation: one hour prior to the service.

Active urn bearers: Hailee Gruchow and Nancy Gruchow.

Honorary urn bearers: David's children, grandchildren, friend and boss, Ron Smothers.

Lunch and fellowship will follow the service, at the Hubbard Community Center.
