Daniel Warren Hoff
Daniel Warren Hoff, 73, of Menahga, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 at home, following a battle against leukemia.
He was born June 10, 1935 in Perley to Paul and Ostine (Ystebo) Hoff. He attended the Perley Elementary School and then went on to attend the Borup Public High School. He graduated in 1953. He then attended Moorhead State College in Moorhead.
In 1959 he purchased a farm in Green Valley Township, Becker County, south of Park Rapids.
On Sept. 5, 1959 he married Margie Lorraine Cummins at First English Lutheran Church in Dorset. They had five children.
In addition to caring for his herd of dairy cattle, he also maintained a hog farrowing operation.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Park Rapids and served as church treasurer for many years. Most recently he was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. He and his wife were leaders of the Pinewood Pioneers 4-H Club for many years.
He is survived by his wife; five children: Debra (Terry) Arola, of Osage, Randell (Paula), of El Cajon, Calif., Cynthia (Don) Kuismi, of Evansville, Sheila (Andy) Fyock, of Brainerd, and Ryan (Nancy), of Salt Lake City, Utah; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Linda), of Perley; three sisters: Roslyn (Bob) Moore, of Whitewright, Texas, Janice Kjesbo, of West Fargo, N.D., and Edith (Charles) Johnson, of Clearwater; a sister-in-law, Donna, of Borup; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Norman, Klyde and an infant brother, Paul Merle.
Casket bearers: Rollie Kjesbo, Jim, Mark, Tim and Corey Hoff, Mike Johnson and Donny Golden.
Honorary casket bearers: John Shepersky, Dale Kroenke, Don Maninga, Martin Berens, Dean Jacobson, Louie Falk, Jim Peterson and Archie Anderson.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids with Rev. James Neubauer officiating. The organist will be Connie Shubert. Congregational hymns will be "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Just As I Am." Wayne Schroeder will sing, "Just a Closer Walk With Thee." His niece, Dulcie Hoff will sing, "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and "Amazing Grace."
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22 at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids. There will be a prayer service led by Rev. Neubauer at 7 p.m. Sunday evening. Wayne Schroeder will sing, "The Lord Is My Shepherd." Visitation will continue one hour before the service on Monday.
Interment: Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids.
