Crime and accidents in Becker County

The following items were taken from reports at the Detroit Lakes Police Department and Becker County Sheriff's Department:

Thursday, May 21

• At 7:11 a.m. a woman reported the theft of items from an unlocked vehicle parked on the 300 block of Summit Avenue. A second, similar incident was also reported in the area.

• At 4:35 p.m. an accident with injuries was reported at Highway 59 and Willow Street.

Melissa Irene Leu, 16, of Callaway attempted to cross Highway 59 in front of an oncoming vehicle. The 2000 Chevy Cavalier she was driving was struck by a 2002 Ford Windstar van driven by Shirley Jean Koenig, 73, of Underwood.

Leu was transported by ambulance to St. Mary's Innovis hospital, where she was treated and released.

• At 10:20 p.m. a portable musical listening device was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle at Wal-Mart.

• At 4:38 p.m. a car fire was reported at Oxcart Trail and Highway 10 East.

• At 5:05 p.m. a Detroit Lakes man reported the theft of an aluminum boatlift, not yet in the water, from the 24000 block of Woodland Lane.

• At 8:37 p.m. a grass fire was reported near the 33000 block of County Road 143. A deputy was there for less than 10 minutes.

Friday, May 22

• At 3:28 a.m. a Ponsford woman reported the attempted theft of her brother's 1996 Ford Probe, which was found pushed into a field.

• At 4:22 a.m. the emergency room at St. Mary's at St. Mary's Innovis reported a female assault victim from White Earth.

• At 7:44 a.m. an assault was reported in White Earth.
