County races attracting newcomers

Hubbard County's District 4 commission race is getting crowded.

Incumbent Lyle Robinson is being opposed by Teresa Rick and Ralph V. Sanquist as of press time Friday.

In the District 2 race, Jason "Bucky" Johnson has filed and it is anticipated that incumbent Dick Devine also will file, although he hadn't by press time. The deadline is June 5.

Rick, of Laporte, is a patient access representative at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center. She has not previously run for office.

Sanquist, of Nevis, is a well-known businessman and owner of Sanquist Construction.

Johnson is an Emergency Medical Technician, a Hubbard First Responder and employee of North Memorial Ambulance Service in Park Rapids. This is his first run for office.

Robinson has been on the Hubbard County Board of Commissioners since 1987. Devine has been on the board since 1997 and served as a school board member before that.
