Park Rapids' David Collins lost in a cliffhanger race to upset endorsed candidate Steve Green for the Republican House Dist. 2B seat Tuesday night.

In the end, Green had garnered 790 votes. Collins had 688. Green will go on to face former DFL Rep. Brita Sailer in the November election.

Early in the returns, Collins trailed by a wide margin, struggling to break above 20 percent. When Park Rapids' precincts came in, he took the lead, soaring to 51 percent of the vote.

The race teetered back and forth until late Tuesday, when the Becker County returns came in. There, Collins lost by a wide margin.

In the other closely watched Hubbard County race, longtime commissioner Lyle Robinson survived a challenge by three opponents in District 4.

He will face Dan Stacey in the November election. Here are the vote totals: Robinson 248, Stacey 102, Ralph Sanquist 95 and Teresa Rick 59.
