Controlled burn draws big crowd
Dozens of firefighters from five agencies conducted a controlled burn of two houses on Highway 71 in Park Rapids, as throngs of spectators stood across the road cheering.
The two homes will make room for a parking lot for the city’s new dialysis clinic.
Babies in strollers, old men and families lined the sidewalks along Park Avenue for hours as teams of firefighters took turns entering the burning structures to get live training.
It took about five hours. There were no incidents ior injuries and the exercise, after months of planning, went smoothly.
