Construction project on schedule; temporary sidewalks to be installed
The first week of Main Avenue construction went smoothly, according to project manager Jon Olson.
At the weekly construction meeting Thursday morning Olson stressed that pedestrian safety is the number one priority. Construction crews have been working to make sure people are walking where they should be as sidewalks are removed.
Temporary sidewalks will be in place soon. Pedestrians should use the alleys and back door entrances at least until the temporary sidewalks are installed.
The project is on schedule so far and a boardwalk was expected to be placed across Main Avenue at 2nd Street by this weekend.
Temporary water hookups for businesses from Highway 34 to 3rd Street are being worked on this week and were scheduled to be in place by the end of this week.
Water and sewer service lines will be replaced with existing size pipes unless they are less than one inch in diameter.
Underground excavation should start on the north two blocks of downtown early next week.
Weekly meetings will continue at 8 a.m. Thursdays at Bella Caffé.
