The Park Rapids Lions Club will be picking up bags of leaves inside the Park Rapids city limits on Thursday, May 15, beginning at 5 p.m. Please place the bags of leaves at the curb for free pick up. The Lions will not pick up loose leaves, branches, rocks or garbage.A planning meeting for the 50th reunion of the Park Rapids High School Class of 1964 will be held at the home of Jan (Green) Rumpza at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 15. Committee members are reminded to bring program ideas. Decorations will also be discussed.Are you a woman who loves to sing and harmonize? A local director is starting a prospective chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a women’s acapella chorus. Join them for a rehearsal from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. All voice parts are needed – high and low. The ability to read music is not required. No previous experience necessary. All ages are welcome. This is open to the public and everyone who is interested in Akeley area history is welcome.A documentary DVD, “Isaiah 9:10 Judgment” will be shown at the Park Rapids Area Library May 15, May 20 and May 29 from 7-9 p.m. The documentary is “The Harbinger” book in DVD format and has actual footage of 9-11 events. It is presented by SHARE Ministry – Terry Nelson.Seasonal residents of Hubbard County: Please plan to attend an update on the Sandpiper and Line 3 Pipeline Route at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 15 at the Northwoods Bank Community Room in Park Rapids. The meeting is sponsored by Friends of the Headwaters. The pipeline update will feature science-based maps, well-researched data, an engaging instructor, and refreshments.This educational session was developed by Friends of the Headwaters to ensure that snowbirds and other returning residents have accurate information about pipeline issues and also an opportunity to speak with neighbors in the community about their concerns and questions. Friday, May 16The Park Rapids Eagles Auxiliary will have a taco buffet benefit dinner and silent auction for Rosie (Anderson) Flannigan from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, May 16 at the Eagles.The benefit is to help recover losses from the fire that destroyed her home on April 26. It is Sponsored by F.O.E. 870 Auxiliary.They are seeking silent auction donations for the benefit. Contact Bonnie Karkinen at 732-0597 for auction donations.
Saturday, May 17The Haiti Committee is sponsoring a fundraising activity Saturday, May 17. Pillow cleaning will take place between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Bring pillows to St. Peter’s Parish Center to be cleaned, deodorized, sanitized and fluffed. New ticking of your choice, on the spot cleaning, ready the same day. New pillows and down comforters can be purchased.Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Snellman will have a smelt fry from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, May 17. For more information contact Hazel Eskola at 573-3691.There will be a luncheon at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17 at Third Street Market for the clarinet soloist Myroslava Hawryluk Hagen and her husband, Scott Hagen, who directed bands in the Park Rapids area before moving to Utah. The lunch follows Saturday’s rehearsal.The joint P.E.O. meeting of Chapters T, FJ, and FQ will be held Saturday, May 17 at Riverside United Methodist Church social hall. Chapter FJ is hosting and will give a short skit for Founders’ Day. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the meeting at 9:30 a.m.The next Ruby’s Pantry food distribution will be held on Saturday, May 17 at the Assumption of our Lady Catholic Church in Menahga. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church with the food distribution following at 10:30 a.m. at the Catholic Church. The cost is $20 per share. Please bring your own baskets and boxes for food.There is a great need for more volunteers. Each distribution needs 50 plus people to help things go smoothly.
