Coborn's hat trick keys Panthers' 6-4 win over Lightning

Tucker Coborn's hat trick and Jared Naeve's four assists led the Park Rapids-Menahga boys hockey team to a 6-4 Mid-State Conference win over Northern Lakes Tuesday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.

Northern Lakes held a 3-1 lead in the first period before the Panthers scored four unanswered goals to spark the win.

Kyle Kanten opened the scoring just 1:10 into the game on assists from Naeve and Sam Coborn.

The Lightning tied the game on Connor Chambers' power-play goal at the 4:49 mark and took a 3-1 lead on goals by Sam Johnson and Chambers within a span of 13 seconds midway through the period.

Naeve assisted on a goal by Tucker Coborn at the 10:46 mark and set up Sam Coborn for the game-tying goal at the 12:57 mark.

Park Rapids claimed a 5-3 lead when Ben Sitz and Sam Coborn set up Tucker Coborn at the 2:41 mark of the second period and Sitz and Naeve assisted on a goal by Levi Erickson at the 11:07 mark. Cody Chambers' goal at the 11:59 mark closed the margin to 5-4 entering the final period.

Tucker Coborn completed his hat trick and sealed the win with a goal at the 9:15 mark. Kevin McMorrow and Erickson assisted on the game's final goal.

Goalie Ryan O'Mara stopped 23 shots as the Panthers improved to 5-1 in conference play and 13-5-1 overall.

Joey Bergquist had 44 saves for Northern Lakes, which fell to 2-3 in the conference and 8-7 overall.

The Panthers travel to Detroit Lakes tonight (Saturday) and will return home to host Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Tuesday night in two more conference games.
