Coborn's four goals, two assists help Panthers snap losing streak

Sam Coborn's four goals and two assists helped the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team snap a five-game losing streak Thursday night.

Jamie Stewart, Levi Erickson and Benson Ringle also scored goals as the Panthers defeated Fosston/Bagley 7-2 in a Section 8A game at Bagley.

Ian Johnson and Cole Gourette assisted on Coborn's first goal at the 6:34 mark before Coborn gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead at the 14:23 mark.

The Panthers scored four times on 12 shots in the second period to claim a 6-1 lead. Coborn set up Jamie Stewart 15 seconds into the period before Aaron Leintz pulled the Flyers to within 3-1. Coborn assisted on a goal by Levi Erickson at the 3:20 mark before Frank Moren and Benson Ringle tallied assists as Coborn completed his hat trick at the 5:13 mark. Coborn scored his fourth goal of the game shorthanded at the 6:58 mark.

After a power-play goal by Brenton Bergh at the 4:37 mark, the Panthers concluded the scoring on Ringle's goal with 3:21 to play.

Goalie Scott Smith made 22 saves for the win as the Panthers held a 29-24 advantage in shots on goal. The win lifted Park Rapids to 3-3 against section teams and 4-7 overall.

The Flyers, who went 1-for-8 on the power play, fell to 0-4 in section games and 3-8 overall.
