Coborn, McMorrow top list of Mid-State baseball players

Despite finishing with a 4-8 record, Tucker Coborn, Kevin McMorrow, Paul Dirks, Jack Mercado and Cory Odland played well in the 12 Mid-State Conference baseball games.

Their play earned those five Park Rapids players all-conference honors.

Coborn and McMorrow earned all-conference honors while Dirks, Mercado and Odland were all-conference honorable mention selections.

Coborn hit .605 (23 for 38) in the 12 conference games with nine runs, 13 RBI, four doubles, one triple and six stolen bases. On the mound, Coborn went 2-0 with one save in four appearances, allowing four runs (two earned) on 13 hits in 13 innings for a 1.08 ERA. Coborn walked four and struck out 14.

McMorrow hit .368 (14 for 38) with four runs, 13 RBI, four doubles and three stolen bases in 12 conference games. McMorrow also made four pitching appearances, going 0-4 with a 6.24 ERA. In 21 1/3 innings, McMorrow gave up 27 runs (19 earned) on 28 hits and seven walks with 11 strikeouts.

Dirks also played in all 12 conference games and batted .366 (15 for 41) with 14 runs, four RBI, one double and two stolen bases.

Mercado played in nine conference game, hitting .250 (6 for 24) and going 2-0 with a 5.09 ERA in two pitching appearances. Mercado scored three runs and had six RBI and two doubles at the plate and allowed 10 runs (eight earned) on 13 hits and seven walks with seven strikeouts in 11 innings on the mound.

Odland hit .314 (11 for 35) with eight runs, nine RBI, four doubles and one home run in 12 conference games. Odland also pitched one inning, allowing no hits or runs while striking out one.

Staples-Motley went 12-0 to win the conference title. Detroit Lakes finished at 8-4, followed by Perham at 7-5 and Wadena-Deer Creek at 6-6. Park Rapids and Crosby-Ironton both went 4-8 while Pequot Lakes ended at 1-11.
