Clinton's no-hitter, Warne's 21 strikeouts power Panthers past Flyers, Rangers

Cady Clinton pitched a no-hitter and Brie Warne struck out 21 batters in two games as the Park Rapids fastpitch softball team went 3-0 in road games against Bagley and Crosby-Ironton.

Warne's 12th strikeout of the game preserved the Panthers' 4-3 victory at Bagley Thursday.

Clinton followed with a no-hitter as the Panthers defeated Crosby-Ironton 10-0 in six innings in the first game of a Mid-State Conference doubleheader at Crosby Friday. Warne threw a three-hitter and struck out nine as the Panthers completed the sweep with a 25-2 victory in five innings in the second game.

The sweep against the Rangers gave Park Rapids sole possession of second place in the conference standings with a 9-3 record. The Panthers carried an 11-6 overall record into Monday's game at Pelican Rapids. Marion Goeden's team concludes the regular season by hosting Sebeka Friday.

Panthers hold off Flyers

The Panthers carried a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning before Bagley attempted a late rally.

The Flyers scored twice and had runners on second and third when Warne recorded her 12th strikeout to end the game.

Park Rapids claimed a 1-0 lead in the first when Maria Goetz walked and scored on Leeza Tostenson's triple.

A double by Goetz, a single by Tostenson, a run-scoring grounder by Warne and an RBI single by Jenny Palm extended the Panthers' lead to 3-0 in the third.

Singles by Warne, Palm and Anna Grimes produced what proved to be the game-winning run in the seventh.

Tostenson, Warne, Palm and Morgan Kelly all had two hit for the Panthers, who had 11 hits in the game. Warne allowed one earned run on three hits over seven innings for the win.

Panthers sweep Rangers

The Panthers pounded out 26 hits and scored 35 runs while holding C-I to three hits and two runs in closing out conference play with a sweep.

In the first game, a triple by Clinton, an RBI single by Danielle Dent, and an error gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead in the first.

Three errors and singles by Goetz and Dent led to five more runs in the second.

Alyssa Carlson singled and scored on a wild pitch in the fifth and Warne singled and scored in the sixth as the Panthers ended this game via the 10-run rule.

Clinton and Dent had two this each to lead Park Rapids' seven-hit attack. Clinton allowed only two baserunners on a first-inning walk and a fourth-inning error.

The Panthers erupted for 13 runs in the first inning of the second game to complete the sweep.

Clinton had a two-run double, Goetz had an RBI single and two-run double, and Dent and Tostenson had RBI doubles to spark Park Rapids in the first inning.

Singles by Carlson, Shelby Weckwerth, Clinton, Goetz and Brittany Gartner and a double by Tostenson led to seven more runs in the second.

Singles by Ashley Domino, Gartner and Kelly and two errors produced four runs in the third.

The Panthers concluded the scoring in the fifth on a double by Dent and another error.

Clinton went 3 for 6 with three runs and three RBI, Goetz went 3 for 3 with three runs and four RBI, Dent went 3 for 3 and Grimes scored five times to lead the Panthers, who had 17 hits in the game. Tostenson and Gartner scored three runs each and joined Kelly with two hits.
