Park Rapids residents who had been running water to prevent frozen water lines can now shut off the water.

Public Works Director Scott Burlingame said the danger has passed and residents can discontinue running water constantly.

The city had created a water credit program due to extraordinary conditions this spring that caused many homeowners to have frozen water lines. Property owners began signing up on Feb. 10.

Burlingame said a few properties that had frozen lines are still not completely thawed but there isn’t a risk for new freezes.

At a council meeting last month city staff recommended billing for this spring’s water usage based on the 2013 usage to fairly give everyone credit.

If anyone has questions about water credits or billing call City Hall at 732-3163.
