July 10, 1953-Aug. 19, 2008
Cheryl K. Ronning, 55, of Detroit Lakes, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at the MeritCare Palliative Care Unit in Fargo.
Cheryl Kay Erickson was born to Mansal and Betty (Sandvik) Erickson on July 10, 1953, in Detroit Lakes, where she grew up and spent most of her life. Cheryl married Duane Ronning on Aug. 16, 1980. They spent most of their married life in or around the Detroit Lakes area.
Cheryl graduated from Detroit Lakes Senior High School, went to Detroit Lakes Community College for legal secretary training and was employed here in Detroit Lakes. Cheryl's favorite thing to do was to spoil her two children, Shawn and Amanda, with lots of love. She loved to spoil her family and friends with lots of homemade goodies. Those will be greatly missed by us all.
It is impossible to put into words how much Cheryl meant to those who loved her. She was the "golden girl." Her heart was pure and selfless. We cannot express the loss all of us feel. She fought so valiantly against cancer. Cheryl was an incredibly devoted mother and unbelievable sister and eternal friend.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Duane Ronning: two children, son Shawn Egan (fiance, Peggy Young) of Chicago, Ill.; daughter, Amanda Ronning of Detroit Lakes; a grandson; her mother, Betty Vogt of Detroit Lakes; three sisters, Diane (Ron) Morton of Detroit Lakes, Mari Ronning of Lincoln, Neb., and Sue (Ted) Cervenka of Detroit Lakes; two brothers, Allan (Chris) Erickson and Stephen (Tanya) Leitheiser, both of Detroit Lakes; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Grace Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. There will bi visitation for one hour prior to the start of services at the church. West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, is providing arrangements.
