Chase's 35 points lift Nevis past W-H-A, to conference's top spot
Taylor Chase scored 35 points as the Nevis boys basketball team took over sole possession of first place in the Northland Conference standings with a 69-51 win over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Tuesday night at Walker.
Chase scored 19 points in the first half as the Tigers built a 44-25 lead and followed with 16 points in the second half to reach his season high.
Gavin Becker and Jake Keranen scored 10 points each while Courtland Chase led the Tigers with eight rebounds. Taylor Chase had six assists and five rebounds, Keranen had five rebounds, Becker had five assists and Jordan Dudley had three assists for the Tigers, who improved to 5-1 in the conference and 7-4 overall.
Anthony Fisher scored 19 points to lead the Wolves, who fell to 4-1 in the conference and 10-2 overall. Blackduck is also 4-1 in conference play.
"This was the best game we have played from start to finish the entire season and we needed it to get a win against a good Walker team," said Nevis head coach Scott Kramer. "They really had no answer for Taylor and I thought we played great team defense and did a nice job of limiting Fisher. It was a big win for us in the conference and a total team effort as we got contributions from the top seven guys on both ends of the floor."
