Charges to be filed soon in Lancaster shooting
Charges are expected early next week against a man held in the Kittson County jail in connection with the Thursday shotgun shooting of a Lancaster, Minn., woman.
Sheriff Kenny Hultgren said Dave Eidem, 49, will be charged in Kittson County Court in Hallock with the shooting of his girlfriend, Laura Docken, 48, who remained in satisfactory condition Friday after emergency surgery Thursday at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Hultgren said the specific charge would be up to County Attorney Roger Malm.
Docken arrived at a clinic in Karlstad, Minn., on Thursday morning with what appeared to be a shotgun wound to her groin. She was taken by ambulance to Altru.
Authorities obtained a warrant and searched Eidem's home in Lake Bronson, Minn. He was arrested in Karlstad and has been held on a violation of his condition of release on a previous charge. Hultgren said Eidem had been drinking, which violated his release terms. Malm said investigators are still collecting evidence and taking statements. He said charges likely would be filed next week, possibly on Monday or Tuesday.
