Century PTA gears up for school year
By Anna Erickson
The Park Rapids Century School PTA is always looking for new members to volunteer.
All parents with children attending Century School along with grandparents and others are welcome to volunteer their time.
The PTA at Park Rapids Area Century School organizes many events throughout the school year for grades K-8. Colleen Hoscheid is the newly-elected president of PTA.
“Education is important for kids and parents should know what’s happening in their child’s school,” Hoscheid said.
Century PTA was organized in 2001 and the group continues to be active in the district.
The general membership meetings occur on the second Monday of every other month in the Century Elementary faculty workroom. The next meeting is 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8.
The PTA supports many school, student and family activities throughout the school year. Each member can choose their level of involvement, whether it be a few hours a month or a few hours each week.
The Century PTA has three main goals:
n To promote parent and community involvement.
n To provide parent education.
n To develop a unified effort to help secure the highest advantages for all children.
The PTA is supported by the annual fundraiser. The PTA fundraiser begins Sept. 8 and runs through Sept. 22. Delivery will be Thursday, Oct. 9.
Without the support of the fundraiser the PTA would not be able to allocate the monies necessary for field trips, family activities and other events.
The PTA is always appreciative of the donation of school supplies to the PTA supply closet, which includes pencils, highlighters, glue sticks, pens, folders, three-ring binders, facial tissues, colored pencils, crayons, markers and erasers.
The Halloween Festival will return this year, Hoscheid said. It will be Saturday, Oct. 25 at Century School.
