Carl Gust Salo, 87, be-loved father, grandfather and friend to many died Saturday Jan. 11, 2014.

Born Dec. 18, 1926, to Charles and Ida Salo, he was the youngest of seven siblings, Leo, Lempi Wierimaa, Sylvia Wirkkala, Julia Tschudi-Kako, Hugo, Waino, and Arvo.

Carl served in the mili-tary for 23 years and re-ceived many awards, hon-ors, and medals.

He spoke Finnish, Swe-dish, and English and trav-eled the world, spending many years in Europe. He was an avid gardener and excellent fisherman. He was loved very much by many, and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years; his children, Charles Salo (Judi) of Wichita, Kan., Susan Salo, Carol Zehnder (Rudolph) of Lakewood, Colo. and Sara Salo of Hopkins; three grandchildren, Jonathan Carl, Lauren and Kate; nu-merous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Services: 11 a.m. Thurs-day, Jan. 23 at Wevley Fu-neral Home in Sebeka.
